Flavourly Review – Food Subscription Box

flavourly food subscription box

Flavourly is a monthly gourmet food subscription box delivering you 10-15 hand picked artisan foods from some of the best new and exciting independent food producers in the UK. In this Flavourly review we take a closer look on what's inside and review the overall experience and value. In addition to the food box, Flavourly have also launched a craft beer subscription, which you can check out our review here.

How Flavourly Started

Back in February 2015, Flavourly Founder and self confessed foodie lover, Ryan O'Rorke from Scotland walked away from the Dragons Den offer of 75k and 20% stake to instead raise investment himself via crowd funding to launch his vision of a gourmet monthly food subscription box.

The bold decision was pivotal, private investors saw huge potential in the concept of Flavourly and within weeks raised well over 7 times the amount offered from the Dragons making it the first ever Scottish company to raise over £500,000 through a public crowd-fund.

The investment has allowed Flavourly to rapidly grow from its conception in O'Rorke's grandmothers garage in Edinburgh to one of the best food subscription boxes on the market, shipping over a million products from over 500 independent British producers.

What's in the Flavourly Box?

Each month is a different collection of gourmet food products. We sampled the April 2015 box which contained 11 items including :

Beetroot Ketchup from The Foraging Fox

Bomba! XXX Tomato Paste from Laura Santtini

Rosemary and Sea Salt Biscuits from Angelic Gluten Free

Hot Pepper Jelly from Trotters Independent

Skinny Corn Cakes from Metcalfe's

Chai Latte from Drink Me

Organic Chocolate from Doisy & Dam

Lemon Pie Toppers from Whole Plus

Amarena Cherries in Dark Chocolate from Landgarten

Air Dried Sweet Apple Crisps from Perry Court Farm

Superfusions Berry Mix from Flavourly

Price and Value

£20 per month - Use Discount Code "AFJUL15FOOD10" to get your first box for just £10. We calculated it would cost approximately £22 to individually source each item from the Flavourly Box from the high street. This shows the Flavourly Box is good value as this comparison doesn't account for the additional time and delivery costs involved when sourcing items separately.

Other Opinions and Reviews of Flavourly

Looking at the range of other reviews currently on the Internet shows the majority rate Flavourly highly. Early reviews dated pre 2015 are dotted with the odd comment relating to missing items, item replacement issues and poor communication. The experience of both ourselves and our colleagues, who are regular Flavourly subscribers has been only positive.

Packaging and presentation is of the best we have received from a monthly box and customer service queries are answered in a quick and friendly manner indicating that the injection of recent investment has helped to resolve some of these early teething problems.

Interesting – they did have a poor reputation (mainly fuled by the silly use of Groupon to create their demand) which I expected to pick up but searching for reviews its seems Trustpilot have them at 5.4/10 for 2015 reviews, with the same old complaints about service and product – where are you getting your favourable reviews?

Hi Rob thanks for getting in touch. The review was based on our own personal experience. I receieved a free trial box Flavourly sent over and I also gathered feedback from colleagues who are regular subscribers.

We did see the 5 negative comments on Trust Pilot, this is why we mentioned them in our review. As a customer it would be frustrating to have missing items or even missing boxes, but we can only relay the experience we have had which has been positive so far.
